CHARLIE BERNACCHIO, EdD, CRC –Assistant Professor, is now Coordinator of the Rehabilitation Counseling program at the University of Southern Maine (USM).  He recently finished his sixth year as faculty at the University of North Carolina (UNC) at Chapel Hill, where he managed the specialization for psychiatric disabilities and directed the Rehabilitation Counseling & Psychology program for the past six years. Dr. Bernacchio has also completed research on aging of people with disabilities, including persons with psychiatric disabilities.  He directed a long-term RSA training grant for the mentally ill before leaving UNC this summer. In his earlier years at USM, he managed a state certification for Mental Health Rehabilitation Technician at the graduate level and served as a special consultant to academic support services to students with disabilities for several years. He has certification and experience as a trained mediator. He teaches rehabilitation counseling and other core counseling courses. His interests include psychiatric rehabilitation practice, supported employment, older workers with disabilities, supported education/universal design for learning and transition of youth with disabilities.
